WhatsApp · your own number

Can I use my existing WhatsApp Business number with 399Apps?

Short answer

Yes, it stays your number. Quick send opens the WhatsApp Business app you already use, so nothing changes. For automatic sending, the number is registered on Meta’s Cloud API inside your own Meta Business account, free on any paid plan. Through 399Apps that means the number leaves the WhatsApp Business app, so many shops add a second number instead.

Your number, three ways to use it

What happens to the number you already message customers from. In every case the number and the WhatsApp Business account stay yours, and 399Apps adds no per-message markup.

Feature Keep it in the WhatsApp Business app Move it to the Cloud API through 399Apps
How bills and messages go out Quick send: 399Apps writes the message and opens your WhatsApp; you tap send Automatically from 399Apps, e.g. the bill PDF from Nidhi POS straight into the customer’s chat
Your chats on the phone Unchanged The number stops working in the WhatsApp Business app; export chats you want to keep first
Meta account needed No Yes, your own Meta Business account. We set it up for you, free
Cost Nothing ₹0 for the connection; Meta bills each business-initiated message to you at its own rate
Time to start Today About an hour of setup plus Meta’s verification queue of 1 to 14 days
Common alternative — Register a second number for the API and keep the old one in the app for conversations

Pricing reflects publicly listed plans and is indicative; verify current pricing with each vendor.

Option 1: keep using the number exactly as it is

Quick send needs no setup and no Meta account. On a counter sale, Send receipt in Nidhi POS opens WhatsApp on your phone with the message written and a link to the bill; on the Nidhi Books WhatsApp screen you pick a customer and a ready-made message, such as a due reminder, and it opens in your own WhatsApp. The message is built in your browser, so 399Apps never sees it. Your number, your chats and your Business app profile stay exactly as they are.

The trade-off is that a person taps send every time, and the customer gets a link to the bill rather than the PDF in the chat. For a single-counter shop that is often enough.

Option 2: put the number on Meta’s Cloud API, in your own account

For sending that happens by itself (the bill PDF from Nidhi POS, campaigns from Nidhi Campaigns), the number is registered on Meta’s official WhatsApp Cloud API inside your own Meta Business account. 399Apps is not a Business Solution Provider (BSP) like Wati, Interakt, AiSensy or Gupshup: the WhatsApp Business Account, the number and the message templates sit in your Meta account, Meta bills you directly, and revoking the access token cuts 399Apps off with nothing to cancel.

The catch is the number itself. 399Apps connects with the credentials from your own Meta app (WABA ID, Phone Number ID, a permanent access token and the App Secret), and on that route Meta will not register a number that is still active on the WhatsApp Business app or consumer WhatsApp. You either delete the WhatsApp account on that number first, which removes it from the app and takes the chat history with it, or you register a second number for the API. Plenty of shops do the second deliberately: one number for conversations, one for bills and campaigns.

The setup is done for you, free, on any paid plan: business verification, the WhatsApp app, registering the number, the permanent token and the webhook. Meta’s verification queue still takes 1 to 14 days.

What about Meta’s “coexistence” mode?

Meta now lets a WhatsApp Business app number also run on the Cloud API, keeping the app working on the phone. Meta calls this coexistence, and it is onboarded only through Meta’s Embedded Signup flow, which Meta’s technology partners and BSPs run. It also comes with limits: the WhatsApp Business app must be version 2.24.17 or later, throughput is fixed at 20 messages a second, and some app features such as view-once messages and broadcast lists change behaviour.

399Apps does not offer coexistence onboarding today, because its connection is your own Meta app rather than Embedded Signup. If keeping one number in the Business app and on the API at the same time matters more to you than avoiding a BSP fee, a BSP that offers coexistence is the honest pick. This page will change when 399Apps supports it.

Already on a BSP? The number can move without being deleted

If your number is already on the API through a BSP, it does not have to be deleted to leave. Meta has a documented process for moving a registered number from one WhatsApp Business Account to another: the display name, quality rating, messaging limit and Official Business Account status carry over, and approved templates are copied across, though Meta may review them again. The business must be verified, have a valid payment method, and turn off two-step verification on the number before the move.

That is also why owning the account matters. With 399Apps the number never sits in our Meta account, so if you ever leave, there is nothing to migrate out of us.

Who this fits, and who should look elsewhere

If you run a shop and are happy to tap send, keep your current number in the WhatsApp Business app and use quick send. If you want bills and offers to go out by themselves and can spare a number (or a second SIM) for it, 399Apps connects it free in your own Meta account with no markup.

If you must keep one number live in the WhatsApp Business app and on the API at once, choose a BSP that supports coexistence for now. If you are a trainer or coach invoicing clients on WhatsApp, our sister product Croodit is built for that. If you run a school, 399apps for Schools is a separate product priced per school.

FAQ

More questions

I have used the same WhatsApp Business number for my shop for years. Will customers still see that number? +
Yes. With quick send nothing changes at all. If you move that number to the Cloud API, customers see the same number and your business name. 399Apps never sends from a shared number of its own.
If I move my number to the API, do I lose my WhatsApp chats? +
Through 399Apps, yes: the WhatsApp account on that number has to be deleted from the app before Meta registers it on the API, and the chat history goes with it. Export the chats you need first, or register a second number for the API and keep the old one in the app.
Can I keep using the WhatsApp Business app on my phone and also send bills from 399Apps on the same number? +
Yes with quick send, which uses the app itself. For automatic API sending on the same number you would need Meta’s coexistence mode, which 399Apps does not onboard today; BSPs that run Meta’s Embedded Signup offer it.
Can I use a new SIM or a landline for the API number? +
Yes. Any Indian number Meta can verify by SMS or voice call works, including a landline that can take a call, as long as it is not active on WhatsApp.
My number is with Wati or AiSensy today. Do I have to delete it to switch? +
No. Meta lets a registered API number move to another WhatsApp Business Account without deleting it; the display name, quality rating and messaging limit carry over, and two-step verification must be turned off for the move.
What does using my own number with 399Apps cost? +
Quick send costs nothing. The Cloud API connection and its setup are free on any paid plan, Meta bills business-initiated messages to you directly at its own rates, and 399Apps adds no markup. Apps are ₹399/month each with unlimited users.
