I run a tent house — a customer books our big generator for a wedding on Saturday, but my staff already gave it to someone else. Can this stop that? +
Yes. Once the generator is booked for those dates, any second booking that overlaps them is refused with "This asset is already out to somebody over these dates." The check is in the database, so even two people booking at the same moment cannot both get it.
How do I see what is overdue and what is coming back today? +
The hire board. It groups every booked hire into overdue, due back today, out now and coming up, with the customer, the dates and the agreed day rate on each line, plus a list of what came back recently.
The customer returned the equipment three days late. How is that charged? +
Record the return date and Rentals works out the days late from the due date. On the bill, those days go on as extra hire at the same agreed day rate — more hire, not a separate late fee — and GST applies to them like the main hire.
The kit came back damaged. Does the damage charge carry GST? +
No. Damage or loss recovery is compensation, not a sale, so it goes on the bill as a separate line with no GST. It is never mixed with the late days, which are taxable hire.
What GST rate does a hire bill use — 18%? +
Not by default. Hiring goods out is taxed at the same rate as selling those goods, so the hire line uses the GST rate of the catalogue item linked to the asset. If the item carries 28%, the hire bills at 28%. Nothing is hardcoded.
How do I handle the security deposit when the hire ends? +
On the settle-up screen, mark it refunded in full, adjusted against the hire, or forfeited against damage, and enter the amount you are keeping. You cannot keep more than you took. If the damage is not priced yet, raise the bill now and settle the deposit later.
What if the customer never returns the equipment? +
Record the return as "never came back" and enter the loss recovery amount. The hire closes, the recovery is billed without GST, and the asset is retired so it cannot be booked out again.
Do I need Nidhi Books as well? +
Yes. Every rental asset links to an item in the Nidhi Books catalogue, which carries its HSN and GST rate, and the hire bill is raised as a Books invoice. Both are ₹399/month, so the pair is ₹798/month with unlimited users.
What does Nidhi Rentals cost? +
₹399/month, like every other app, with unlimited users and no cap on how many assets or hires you record.
