Nidhi Books + Inventory alone vs adding Nidhi Import Costing

Books and Inventory record what you bought. Import Costing adds what it cost to get the goods here.

Feature Books + Inventory + Import Costing (₹1,197/month) Books + Inventory alone (₹798/month)
Freight, duty and clearing bills Booked against the container’s consignment and split across its lines by value, quantity or volume Separate bills that never reach the goods
Stock value of an imported item Weighted-average cost including its share of charges: bought at ₹100 with ₹20 of charges, valued at ₹120 The supplier’s invoice price, so margin looks better than it is
Clearing agent bills a week late The whole consignment is re-costed and the change shows in the audit history Nothing to re-cost
One container, two purchase orders A consignment is built from purchase-order lines, so charges spread over whatever travelled together No container record
Goods still at sea Goods-in-transit register: expected date, destination warehouse, value so far, arrivals in the next 7–90 days Not visible until received

Pricing reflects publicly listed plans and is indicative; verify current pricing with each vendor.

What Nidhi Import Costing does

Raise a purchase order in USD, EUR, GBP, AED, SGD, AUD, CAD, JPY or CHF at a rate you lock. The order prints in the supplier’s currency, and the bill it becomes keeps that rate, recorded in rupees with the supplier’s own figure beside it. Rates come from your own exchange-rate register, typed by you with the date they apply from, not from a live feed, so every figure is one you can explain to your auditor.

Each container is a consignment with its vessel, container number, bill of lading, ports, dates and bill of entry number. Book ocean freight, insurance, customs duty, IGST on import, port handling, the clearing agent and inland transport against it as the bills arrive. Each charge is split across the lines by value, quantity or volume, to the last paisa, and booking, editing or removing a charge later re-costs every line. The consignment screen lists which charge types are still not booked.

IGST paid at customs is booked as its own charge: tick "Reclaimable as input credit" and it stays out of the goods’ cost, leave it unticked and it becomes part of the landed cost. The landed cost report then shows purchase price against landed cost by consignment or by item, with the uplift over the supplier’s price — the number you need before you set a selling price.

Who it is for, and who should skip it

If you import from overseas suppliers in dollars or euros, and freight and duty add a real share on top of the supplier’s price, Nidhi Import Costing fits. It suits import-distributors, trading companies, wholesalers of imported goods and manufacturers importing raw material who today work out landed cost in a spreadsheet after the fact.

If you buy only from Indian suppliers in rupees, skip it: Nidhi Books and Nidhi Inventory already cover purchasing and stock. If you want your bill of entry filed or a link to ICEGATE, that stays with your customs broker; the app only records the bill of entry number. If you already run Zoho Inventory and only need freight added to a single purchase bill, its landed cost feature allocates charges on a bill by value or quantity. If you need letters of credit, import licences, FIFO valuation or multi-company consolidation, a full ERP such as SAP Business One fits better.

What it costs

Nidhi Import Costing is ₹399/month on the 399apps cloud with unlimited users and no limit on consignments or charges. It reads the purchase orders and bills you raise in Nidhi Books, so the pair is ₹798/month. To receive the goods into stock and see landed cost in your stock valuation, add Nidhi Inventory: ₹1,197/month for all three. Self-hosted deployment is available on the same product. A 14-day free trial is available (no card required).

FAQ

மேலும் கேள்விகள்

I import electronics from China in USD and pay freight and customs duty separately — can 399Apps tell me what each item really cost me in rupees? +
Yes, with Nidhi Import Costing. Raise the purchase order in USD at your rate, create a consignment for the container, then book the freight, insurance, duty and clearing bills against it as they arrive. Each charge is split across the lines, and the landed cost report shows the cost per unit and the uplift over the supplier’s price.
Our clearing agent always bills two weeks after the container lands — will my stock value be wrong until then? +
Only until you book that bill. Booking it re-costs the whole consignment, the stock valuation picks up the new figure, and the change shows in the audit history. The consignment screen also lists which charge types are not booked yet, so a missing bill is visible.
Does Nidhi Import Costing fetch the dollar rate automatically? +
No, deliberately. You record rates in your own exchange-rate register with the date they apply from. A new purchase order starts from the latest rate you recorded for that currency, and you can override it on the order.
I claim the IGST I pay at customs as input credit — will it get added to my item cost? +
Not if you tick "Reclaimable as input credit" on the IGST on import charge; it then stays out of the goods’ cost. If you cannot claim it, leave it unticked and it becomes part of the landed cost. The app does not file or change your GST returns.
Will my customs broker still need to file the bill of entry if I use 399Apps? +
Yes. Nidhi Import Costing does not file the bill of entry or connect to ICEGATE. You record the bill of entry number on the consignment for your own reference; filing with customs stays with your broker.
Do I need Nidhi Books and Nidhi Inventory as well as Import Costing? +
Nidhi Books, yes: Import Costing reads the purchase orders and bills raised there, so the pair is ₹798/month. Nidhi Inventory is needed to receive the goods into stock and see landed cost in your stock valuation, which makes it ₹1,197/month for all three, with unlimited users.
