Overview

What you own, and what it is worth now.

Every year your CA asks the same question: what did the business buy, what did it sell, and what is the depreciation? Most owners answer it from a folder of bills and memory. Nidhi Assets keeps the answer ready. Each asset is recorded with its cost, the block it belongs to (buildings, furniture and fittings, plant and machinery, motor vehicles, computers, intangible assets) and the date it was first put to use — which is what depreciation turns on, not the purchase date. Depreciation follows Income Tax Act Section 32: written-down value on the block of assets, with half the rate for anything used fewer than 180 days in the year it was acquired. You or your CA enter the rate for each block; we never pre-fill one, because the Finance Act changes them. When an asset is sold, scrapped, lost or written off, the amount realised comes off the block in that year, and earlier years stay as they were filed. Available on the 399apps cloud or self-hosted.

One register of everything you own

Name, cost, block of assets, the date it was put to use, and which branch or warehouse it sits in. The list is the first screen you see, with each asset marked in use or disposed.

Put-to-use date, not purchase date

A machine bought in February and installed in May is depreciated from May. The register asks for the day the asset was first used in the business, because that is the date Section 32 counts from.

Rates you control, by year

Set one rate per block, effective from a financial year. When the rate changes, add a new one from the new year — earlier years keep computing at the old rate. If a block has no rate, the register says so plainly instead of guessing a statutory figure.

Section 32 WDV on the block, with the half-year rule

Depreciation is the rate applied to opening written-down value plus additions minus amounts realised, per block. Anything put to use for fewer than 180 days in the year it was acquired is charged at half the rate that year, and is flagged as half rate on the register.

Disposals that do not rewrite filed years

Record that an asset was sold, scrapped, lost or written off, with the date and the amount you got for it. The amount comes off the block in the year of disposal only. A disposal recorded by mistake can be undone, and the year is recomputed without it.

The year-end register for your CA

Pick a financial year and see, for every block: rate, opening value, added this year, disposed this year, depreciation and closing value, with totals. Opening + added − disposed − depreciation = closing on every line, and a list of what each block held that year.

Extinguished blocks are flagged, not hidden

If a sale brings in more than the block was carrying, the block is marked extinguished and the excess is shown. The balancing charge on that excess is left to your CA to assess on the return — we do not compute it.

Link the purchase bill, if you have one

If you use Nidhi Books, point an asset at the vendor bill it was bought on. It is a reference only — the money was recorded when the bill was entered, so nothing is counted twice. Older assets with no bill are fine.

Fit check

Who Nidhi Assets is for — and who it is not for.

Nidhi Assets does one job: the asset register and the income tax depreciation figure. Check that this is the job you need done.

It fits if

  • Your CA asks for the depreciation schedule every year

If the fixed asset schedule for your income tax return is rebuilt each year from bills and old spreadsheets, the year-end register gives your CA opening, additions, disposals, depreciation and closing for each block, for any year.

  • You own real equipment, vehicles or premises

Machines, delivery vans, computers, furniture, a building — if the business owns things that last for years, they belong in a register with the date each was put to use and where it sits.

  • You sell or scrap old assets now and then

Recording the disposal with its date and the amount realised keeps the block correct for that year, without changing the years already filed.

It does not fit if

  • You need Companies Act depreciation for audited books

Nidhi Assets computes Income Tax Act Section 32 written-down value on blocks of assets. It does not compute Companies Act Schedule II depreciation, straight-line method or per-asset useful-life depreciation. If a company audit needs both books and tax schedules, an ERP fixed-asset module such as SAP Business One fits that better.

  • You want rates filled in for you

We do not ship statutory rates. You or your CA enter the rate for each block once, and again only when it changes. If you want software that pre-loads the rate table, this is not it.

  • You want asset tags, maintenance or AMC tracking

There are no barcode tags, service schedules, AMC reminders or check-out to employees. Nidhi Assets records ownership and the tax figure, nothing more.

Dhyaan dein. Nidhi Assets works on its own at ₹399/month with unlimited users. If you also use Nidhi Books, you can link each asset to the vendor bill it was bought on — that link is optional, and Assets does not require Books.

FAQ

Assets — FAQs

I bought a delivery van in November and a lathe in May — how much depreciation can I claim this year? +
Record both with their cost and the date each was put to use, and set the rate your CA uses for motor vehicles and for plant and machinery. The year-end register applies the full rate to the lathe and half the rate to the van, because the van was used for fewer than 180 days in the year it was acquired. Each is shown in its own block with the depreciation for the year.
Which depreciation method does Nidhi Assets use? +
Income Tax Act Section 32: written-down value on a block of assets, with the half-year rule for assets used fewer than 180 days in the year of acquisition. It does not compute straight-line or Companies Act Schedule II depreciation.
Does it come with the income tax depreciation rates already filled in? +
No, on purpose. Rates are set by the Finance Act and change, and a stale rate would put a wrong figure on your return. You or your CA enter one rate per block with the financial year it applies from. If a block has no rate, the register warns you rather than inventing one.
I sold an old machine — how do I record it? +
Open the asset and record the disposal: sold, scrapped, lost or written off, the date, and the amount you got for it. That amount comes off the block in the year of the disposal. There is no gain or loss on the single asset — under the block method, the difference stays in the block. Earlier years are not changed.
What happens if I sell an asset for more than the block is worth? +
The block is marked extinguished and the excess amount is shown on the register. That excess is a balancing charge your CA assesses on the return; Nidhi Assets reports it but does not compute the tax on it.
Can I see the register for last year, or the year before? +
Yes. Pick any financial year from the year your oldest asset was put to use. Each year is computed fresh from your records, so viewing it again never double-counts anything.
Do I need Nidhi Books to use Nidhi Assets? +
No. Assets works on its own. If you use Nidhi Books, you can link an asset to the vendor bill it was bought on as a reference. Assets bought before you started using 399apps simply have no bill linked.
What does Nidhi Assets cost? +
₹399/month on the 399apps cloud, with unlimited users and no limit on how many assets you record. Self-hosted deployment is available on the same product.
